While using a condom is the most effect tool for stopping the spread of HIV/AIDS through sexual intercourse aside from abstinence, there is always the possibility that it can rip or break, and, in this case, HIV/AIDS can be transmitted. It is also important to remember that sexual intercourse is not the only way by which HIV can be transmitted. HIV can be spread through blood and breast milk as well as through semen and vaginal secretions. This means that you can become infected with HIV through contact with contaminated blood (through unclean hospital procedures and through the use of unsterilized needles) and that a mother can transmit HIV to her child through breast milk.
